Description	This paper focuses on the estimation of an average age of machinery and equipment as a quantitative characteristic of modernity or datedness of assets in industry of education. For this purpose we use adjusted model of perpetual inventory based on Markov chains. For the estimation we used gross fixed capital formation, price indices, flow of other changes, and retirement function, which are used for construction of official balances of fixed assets at annual national accounts statistics. In period 2001-2010 the industry of education belongs to industries with most significant decrease of average age. This result is in correspondence with modernisation goals of the Development of Education in the Czech Republic, White Paper.
