Description	The aim of the paper is to contribute to this discussion from the university and researchers point of view. We have analyzed the approach of the majority of Czech public universities towards this new challenge and interviewed more than 80 academics, researchers and technology transfer managers, in order to assess how the universities are coping with fulfillment of the new role demanded by the society.
