Description
  • The local power sources for distributed generation from wind or water energy are typically under 1kW with daily production up to 20kWh, which is much more than is the need of fully electrified household. The paper is focused on the generators with permanent magnets, which supplies DC link with battery storage and inverters. There are compared two concepts, the high speed generator connected with low speed turbine by some kind of gear vs. direct drive resulting in great volume and mass generator. The total efficiency is investigated as well as the price of the generating unit. The optimal rotor speed for declared power is over 6000 rpm which results in two pole configuration. The high speed generator requires the great gear ratio with perfect efficiency, but its design is out of this paper. The generator design and electromagnetic calculation are elaborated in great details for both armature location (stator or rotor). Also the inverse arrangement with the outer rotor is examined
