Description	The paper is focused on strong convective processes in the atmosphere associated with the occurrence of thunderstorms and on the possibility of their prediction using the instability index CAPE. It deals with the storm as hazardous meteorological phenomenon, the conditions required for the formation of convection and storms can be monitored by detection of lightning discharges. The main goal is to specify where to set thresholds values of CAPE for the Czech Republic. In order to achieve the best results, CAPE characteristics are combined with PWAT moisture characteristics.
