Description
  • Electromagnetic detectors belong to basic equipment for demining or ammunition clearance groups. Commercial producers declare excellent progress in detection of very small amount of metal, even non metallic objects. This article should explain whether those declarations are reliable. It contains background of the knowledge on electromagnetic detection principles, basic working modes and limiting factors originated by surrounding soil. Further, the article explains process of metallic materials discrimination and widely discussed question of mineralization. The reader should realise that detection is indispensable method when the security is to be restored. No detection method can replace the lasting and dangerous work of deminers.
