Description
  • The species-specific production of extracellular phosphatases in phytoplankton of a subtropical polymictic lake was investigated from March to May 2004. Phosphatase activity was detected directly at the site of enzyme action using the enzyme labelled fluorescence (ELF) technique. Phosphatase-positive cells were present in every phytoplankton sample; labelled cells were detected in 33 algal taxa of many chlorophytes, dinoflagellates, and some diatoms, but never among cyanobacteria. We recorded an unusual dinoflagellate bloom (Peridiniopsis sp.) of which /~25% of the cells were phosphatase-positive. The production of extracellular phosphatases was not primarily regulated by ambient P concentrations; algae produced these enzymes even if SRP concentrations were high. Moreover, heterotrophic nanoflagellates most probably contributed to the pool of particle-bound phosphatase activity in some samples.

  • Produkce extracelulárních fosfatáz byla na druhové úrovni studována v subtropickém polymiktickém jezeře od března do května 2004. Fosfatázová aktivita byla přímo detekována v místě aktivity pomocí ELF metodiky. Buňky s fosfatázovou aktivitou byly v každém vzorku; značené buňky patřily 33 rodům řas – hlavně zeleným řasám, obrněnkám a rozsivkám, ale nikdy sinicím. Zaznamenali jsme neobvyklý vodní květ Peridiniopsis sp., z něhož asi 25 % populace měla fosfatázovou aktivitu. Produkce extracelulárních fosfatáz nebyla primárně regulovaná koncentrací P; řasy produkovaly enzymy i když byla koncentrace SRP vysoká. Heterotrofičtí bičíkovci pravděpodobně také přispívali k fosfatázové aktivitě v některých vzorcích. (cs)
