  • In this study an in vitro assay was used to determine the importance of Ca2 + stores and the involvement of PKC and cAMP pathways by which AKH exerts its anti-oxidative effects. 4-HNE was significantly enhanced and membrane fluidity reduced in the CNS of P. apterus when treated with H2O2. These biomarkers of OS were reduced when H2O2 was co-treated with AKH. The healing effect of AKH was negated in the presence of Ca2 + channel inhibitors. Presence of inhibitors of PKC compromised the anti-oxidative function of AKH. Presence of PKC or cAMP activators restored the protective effects of AKH treatment. Our results implicate the importance of Ca2 + stores, PKC and cAMP pathways in AKHs' anti-oxidative action.
