Description
  • Introduction Failure outcome expectancies (FOE) conceptualized in prior research (Hagtvet, Man & Shanna, 2001) is applied to a sport evaluative context. Item order in inventories is one sort of context effects that may affect measurement of latent constructs. Although a large body of literature exists on context effects, there is no cohesive framework that facilitates a systematic examination of the existence, magnitude and consequences of context effects (Brennan, 1992). Based on an extension of someconcepts of generalizability theory, Brennan (1992) provided a conceptual framework for this purpose. The -present study applies this framework to estimate effects of item order as one type of context effect potentially present in a multifacet instrumen t. Methods Instrument versions The present study applied a multifacet instrument consisting of three facets where items are nested within crossed combinations of referents and concerns, and persons are crossed with all measurement facets (p x i:rc
