Description
  • The phylogenetic relationships of avian trypanosomes, common parasites of birds, remain ambiguous and validity of manyspecies is questionable. Analyses based on 18S rRNA sequences, dimensions of the kinetoplast disc and the size of kinetoplast (k) DNA minicircles were used to differentiate among large trypanosomes parasitizing birds of the Old World. These trypanosomes with typical striated appearance formed two well-supported groups - the %22Trypanosoma avium%22 clade and the %22Trypanosoma corvi%22 clade. Interestingly, the isolate derived from the Central European hippoboscid fly (Ornithomyia avicularia) is closely related to T. corvi from a raven captured in the U.K., whereas a trypanosome obtained from the blood of a raven of the Central Europe origin (Czech Republic) is a typical member of the %22T. avium%22 clade.

  • Fylogenetické vztahy mezi trypanosomami ptáků zůstávají nejasné a validita některých druhů je pochybná. Analýza sekvencí genu pro jadernou malou ribosomální podjednotku, rozměrů kinetoplastového disku a velikosti kinetoplastových DNA minikroužků, byly použity k odlišení trypanosom parazitujících na ptácích Starého světa. Tyto trypanosomy se svym typickým žlábkovaným vzhledem vytvořily dvě dobře podpořené skupiny, podskupinu %22Trypanosoma avium%22 a podskupinu %22Trypanosoma corvi%22. Je zajímavé, že izolát odvozený z hippoboscidní mouchy z Centrální Evropy (Ornithomyia avicularia)je blízce příbuzný k T. corvi z havrana chyceného v U.K., kdežto trypanosoma získaná z krve havrana ze Strední Evropy (Česká republika)je typickým zástupcem podskupiny %22T. avium%22.
