Description	Data on the biomass and net primary production by aquatic macrophytes, collected in Central and Eastern Europe wetlands and standing shallow waters during the 1960s, have been evaluated from the viewpoint of carbon content and its accumulation by macrophytes. Macrophytes are divided, according to their life forms, to emergent, floating-leaved, and submerged. Within each particular group, the carbon accumulation is mostly related to the nutrient status of the habitat.
