Description
  • The paper deals with recessive genetic disorders in cattle population in the Czech republic. There was not found any heterozygous carrier of BLAD, DUMPS or citrulinaemia among sires tested for breeding value in 2003. Out of 66 elite Holstein females tested for CVM, 52 were dominant homozygotes, and 14 (21%) heterozygotes. All females were dominant homozygotes for BLAD, DUMPS and citrulinaemia. The occurrence of lethal recessive inherited disorders is sporadic, but long-term latent spread by heterozygouscarriers increases the frequency of recessive allele. As a consequence, economic loss occurres. Due to the artificial insemination and intensive use of low number of elite sires partialy in Holstein population, the genetic disorder could expand world-wide rather quickly. As an example, BLAD or CVM could be mentioned. Molecular methods enable revealing of heterozygotes and quick enhancement of genetic health of population.
