Description
  • Study was conducted to determine effect of humidity on efficacy of entomopathogenic fungus Paecilomyces fumosoroseus on population of greenhouse whitefly Trialeurodes vaporariorum. Fungus was applied proactively, before adults of pest have been introduced on treated plants. Both, direct and residual effects of P. fumosoroseus on various developmental stages of whitefly have been recorded within development of one generation of T. vaporariorum. Pathogen related mortality within whitefly population was significantly affected by humidity. Eggs and early nymphal stages were the most susceptible stages of whitefly. P. fumosoroseus induced high mortality in both, suboptimal (low humidity, 64-82% mortality) and optimal (high humidity, 93-99% mortality) conditions. However, under suboptimal conditions, mortality was not followed with superficial growth and sporulation of fungus on cadavers. Auto-dissemination of infection by whitefly adults was also recorded.

(cs)
