| - In a Czech short story 'Pole a palisáda', published in 2006 as a part of %22The Myths' series, Miloš Urban has his take on the legendary Libuše, a character often used as a symbol of Czech national identity. The author explores a topic known from sources as old as Medieval chronicles, of Libuše's handing over her power to a man - Přemysl the Farmer. However not only does he modify the facts known from the earlier sources, but he also tries to give the story the features of a myth on one side, and deconstructs the character of Libuše on the other. For many centuries the character of Libuše had a patriotic meaning, yet for the young generations she became a mere hollow icon. In his short story, Urban tries to modernise her character, making her behave in a manner understandable for a current reader. On the myth side though he reaches for typical topoi, mainly the one of death, which in the story is not only playing an initiative part, but also accentuates the continuum. The bond with the ancestors becomes a statement in the discourse on national identity, current while the text was written, when the main news topics were discussions about the possibility of a loss of the national character after entering the European Union. Urban's short story is then, despite it's little size, a text offering multiple interpretations - in the context of both a degraded myth and a modern myth constituting an identity. (en)
- W czeskiej noweli Pole a palisáda, opublikowanej w roku 2006 jako część serii wydawniczej %22Mity%22, Miloš Urban skupił się na postaci legendarnej Libušy, postaci częśto traktowanej jako symbol czeskiej tożsamości narodowej. Autor przetwarza temat znany od czasów średniowiecznych kronik - o przekazaniu władzy przez Libušę mężczyźnie - Porzemysłowi Oraczowi. Pisarz nie tylko modyfikuje fakty znane z najwcześniejszych źródeł, ale również stara się nadać historii cechy z jednej strony mitu, z drugiej dekonstruuje postać Libušy. Przez wiele wieków jej postać miała znaczednie patriotyczne, choć dla najmłodszych pokoleń stałą się pustą ikoną. W swojej noweli Urban próbuje zmodernizować tę postać, nadając jej działaniom motywacje zrozumiałe dla współczesnego czytelnika. Konstruując zaś mit, autor sięga po typowe topoi, zwłaszcza śmierci, która w noweli pełni rolę nie tylko inicjacyjną, ale także podkreśla ciągłość. Więź z przodkami staje się stanowiskiem w dyskursie o tożsamości narodowej, aktualnej w chwili powstawania tekstu, kiedy jednym z bardziej dyskutowanych tematów była obawa przed utratą tożsamości narodowej po wejściu do Unii Europejskiej. Nowela Urbana, mimo niewielkiej objętości, jest tekstem oferującym wiele możliwych interpretacji - w kontekście zarówno mitu zdegradowanego, jak i współczesnego mitu konstytuującego tożsamość.
