Description	Jehan de Nostredame (1507?-1577?), auteur a son époque du tr?s cél?bre volume Les vies des plus cél?bres et anciens po?tes provençaux (imprimé 1575 en Lyon), a été d'abord timidement puis aux 18e et 19e si?cles ouvertement critiqué pour le fait qu'il avait introduit dans le recueil de ses versions de biographies troubadouresques médiévales (en occitan appelées vidas) nombre d'informations fabulées, des personnages inventés et m?me de nombreux mensonges. On l'a nommé imposteur et tricheur ou ? plus impudent faussaire ?, ou m?me ? habile mystificateur ?. L'objectif de notre contribution est de tenter d'innocenter, dans une certaine mesure, Nostredame de cette accusation par la proposition d'une explication naturelle de ses mensonges et tromperies. Une explication fondée sur le fait que Nostredame a seulement utilisé le cadre d'un recueil de biographies troubadouresques pour écrire son propre volume de narrations courtes, de nouvelles, son Novellino. Il s'agissait d'ailleurs d'un genre tr?s en vogue parmi lecteurs de son temps. Jehan Nostredame (1507?- 1577?) published in 1575 a collection of his versions of short troubadours' biographies. The book had an immense success and it was no earlier then in the 18th and the 19th centuries when appeared first criticism pointing to the invented troubadours, falsification of history and other fantasies contained in the book. In the end of the 19th century Nostredame was by some scholars referred even as an impudent imposter or apt mystificator and his collection was rejected as a bunch of lies on the whole. This article seeks to propose a possible explanation of alluded Nostredame's lies and falsifications. An explanation based on hypothesis that Nostredame published his pretended biographies only to use this formal frame to compose his own collection of short stories, novelle, so much in vogue in his times.
