Description
  • Aim: The aim of this contribution is to make readers acquainted with the management of unforeseen events in nursing and treatment care and at the same time contribute to the discussion about the possibilities of lowered risks that the patient is exposed to during given care. Methods: This contribution has the character of review study. Content analysis of home and foreign scientific literature was conducted to obtain data for the required topic. Analysis and discussion: The problems of safety of nursing and treatment care have been under increasing focus not only among health care staff but also general public and the media. It is estimated that 8-12% hospitalised patients in European Union countries suffer injury or damage due to malpractice conducted by a member of the health care team. The quality and safety of nursing and treatment care cannot be improved unless all doctors and nurses admit to the risk of conducting malpractice and agree to actively prevent it from happening. It is desirable that the hospital management would implement into practice the so called safety culture that would be capable of minimizing the probability of health care personnel making mistakes or minimise the possible consequences. Conclusion: Czech Republic is successfully implementing strategies for increasing quality and safety of given care into health care legislation and is thus fulfilling the requirements of the European Commission on the safety of patients including infections connected to health care.
