Description
  • The joint efforts of several research groups which pioneered application of 29Si NMR to water glasses resulted in an entirely new view on the structure of these industrially important liquids. They identified the signals that belong to the so called Q0, Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 structural units. (In this Qn notation, Q stands for a silicon atom bound to four oxygen atoms, and the superscript n shows its connectivity to n other such silicon atoms).We have found that the silicon signal originating from the probe head can be effectively reduced or even eliminated through the use of pulse sequence that originally aimed at elimination of acoustic ringing. The details of this approach, which also yields very flat baseline, are described in this communication
