  • The automotive industry produces an ever-increasing number of vehicles with Diesel engines. The issue Diesel engines are currently facing is the transition to the new EURO 5 emission limits, effective since September 2009. The purpose of the new emissions limits is to equal the emission content with petrol engines; the hardest part is the reduction of the emission limit for particulate matter (PM) to 20\% of the current value required by the EURO 4 emission limits. For the most part, particulate matter consists of soot particles the size of which varies from 1$\mu$ m až 200$\mu$ m; these are invisible to the human eye.
