Description	In this paper, we will study a condition which guarantees that a given canal surface with polynomial MAT (medial axis transform) has rational contour curves with respect to some chosen direction. These curves can be then used for a computation of rational parameterizations providing rational offsets. A discussion of the simplest cases (linear, quadratic and cubic medial axis transforms) is given and geometrically interpreted.
