Description
  • The thesis deals with mathematical and computational models of soft tissues, such as connective or muscle tissues. Two basic modelling approaches are discussed. Using the homogenization approach the macroscopic model can be derived for a given microstr ucture. The classical 2 scale homogenization approach is extended and applied for modelling locally periodic heterogeneous media undergoing large deformations. Microscopic equations and homogenized stiffness coefficients are derived for the hyperelas tic material with incompressible inclusions. A sensitivity analysis of homogenized coefficients is proposed to study their dependence on local deformations of the microstructure. The second modelling approach is based on the mixture theory; the composi te model uses only reduced information about the microstructure. This approach proved to be viable for macroscopic modelling of whole organs.
