| - The paper presents the results of a research project examining intercultural variations in the comprehension of Czech and French emblematic gestures. Four focus groups were asked to formulate their understanding of 20 selected gestures: 10 French emblematic gestures and 10 Czech gestures. The groups included: Czechs cooperating with French in the Czech republic, French cooperating with Czechs in the Czech republic, Czechs without any previous experience of working jointly with the French and French lacking such contact with Czechs. Each group consisted of 20 respondents. The set of 20 gestures was demonstrated by the researcher to the respondents who were asked to interpret their understanding of these in their own words. The responses were coded as either %22understood%22 or %22not understood%22. The Chi-square test was applied to the analysis of the data collected to establish the significance of the data obteined. The research confirmed a positive influence of mutual contact by French cooperating with Czechs, as it was able to demonstrate a better understanding of Czech emblematic gestures compared to group of French lacking contact with Czechs. Similarly, group of Czechs cooperating with French reaffirmed a better understanding of French gestures compared to group of Czechs lacking contact with French. In the set, 4 gestures were understood by both the French and Czech sub-groups and no interactional cultural influence was established. (en)
- Studie prezentuje výsledky výzkumu interkulturních odlišností v porozumění 10 českých a 10 francouzských sémantických gest. Byly testovány odpovědi 80 respondentů ze 4 skupin po 20 respondentech - Češi spolupracující s Francouzi, Francouzi spolupracující s Čechy, Češi bez kontaktu s Francouzi a Francouzi bez kontaktu s Čechy. Výsledky potvrdily kulturní specifičnost u většiny testovaných sémantických gest, dále se prokázal částečný vliv vzájemného kontaktu na porozumění některým českým sémantickým gestům u Francouzů pracujících v ČR a pro porozumění některým francouzským gestům ve skupině Čechů spolupracujících s Francouzi v českém pracovním prostředí. Ze souboru 20 testovaných gest se kulturní specifičnost neprokázala u čtyř gest, kterým rozmuměly testované skupiny respondentů v obdobné míře.
