Description
  • The influence of field of temperature distribution and curing time on the mechanical properties of fiberglassreinforced epoxy composite was studied. Set of tubular composite sections 90 mm in diameter, 2800 mm in length and wall thickness of 1 mm were placed at different places in a custommade curing oven and cured at temperature of 150 °C for different times ranging from 2 to 3 hours. Tubular samples were cut from manufactured sections amd compressive strength was analyzed (in accordance with IEC 61212-2 standard), taking into account the different positions in curing oven (x, y and z axes). Despite of the fact that the curing oven was designed especially for the tested profiles, obtained results proved that the mechanical properties were notably affected by heterogeneous field of temperature distribution. Compressive strength of samples was changed by as much as 10 - 15 % according to position of samples in the oven. As results also shown the additional one hour of isothermal postcuring can improve compressive strength by as much as 10 %.
