Description
| - The partial discharge measurement is well introduced for quality and diagnostic testing of important asset components as large generators, rotating machines etc. Usually the measurement procedure is given by standards as IEC 60270, whereby the results are evaluated by measured magnitude of apparent charge QIEC. For measuring of this parameter QIEC some requirements of the measuring system must be fulfilled. In previous papers was shown that the magnitude of QIEC doesn't represent the pd behaviour in every circumstances depending on the type of discharge, pd activity, number of pd sources etc. In this paper is discussed the adequate problem to estimate the partial discharge (PD) behaviour of typical stator bar insulation. The investigations were performed using stator bar models based on mica insulation and epoxy resin with slot and end bar corona protection. For estimation of the PD behaviour the standardized parameter QIEC and derived quantities as repetition rate, PD current recommended by IEC were measured, additionally to that PRDP - and PSA pattern were recorded. The results show that the estimation of PD behaviour by the measured magnitude of QIEC only can lead to a misinterpretation of the PD behaviour depending on the testing parameter. One of the main reasons for that is the evidence of multiple PD sources in such insulation type mainly internal PD and gliding discharges. Therefore several PD mechanisms occur making a superposition of the measured signals. For a better interpretation the separation of the results including the identifying of the single PD sources seems to be necessary. One of the possibilities doing that could be the performing of PD measurement using different frequency range windows of the measuring system during the same test procedure. The results show the influence of different measurement conditions as well as the possibility for a better interpretation of the PD behaviour of such insulation type.
