Description
  • This article deals with passive magnetic bearing system specially based on rare-earth permanent magnets. Magnetic bearing system allows contact-free levitation. This is an attractive feature which offers some interesting advantages such as no friction, no lubrication, long life, low dimension, weight and maintenance cost. PM materials like SmCo or NdFeB create very strong magnetic fields with high magnetic energy density, but they are expensive and they have limited working temperature. This type has the smallest power losses of all magnetic bearing type, but it has limited lifting capacity without possibility of regulation. PM magnet bearing is suited for high revolution application which you can use with the advantage in vacuum as flywheels, pumps, turbine and compressor drives. Next part is engaged in structure modification of Halbach arrays. Another part describes FEM modeling of segmented Halbach arrays with subsequent comparison of created magnetic fields. (en)
