Description
| - One of the modern car problems, engineers are dealing with, is lightening a car. Lighter vehicle accelerates faster, there is a greater power to weight ratio so in a way, decreasing the weight of a car has the same effect as increasing horsepower. A lighter vehicle also leads to better braking as the brakes do not have to work as hard to fully stop a lighter vehicle and better handling. There are a lot of ways to lighten a car, but in general reducing weight on individual car components is considered as one of the best. Main goal of this article is to present modern approaches onto lightening a specific car part - carseat. Thus it is very difficult to propose a common lightweight seat, we focused on one specific cars seat, from KIA Ceed. Both front and back seats were modified, also different materials and latch alternatives are presented. The article presents at the beginning both construction and material alternatives, then giving possible partial weight reductions in percentages, finally weight reduction of the whole carseat.
