| - Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is traditionally the sphere of the corporate sector but recognition of the growing importance of the Small and Medium Sized Enterprise (SME) sector leads to emphasize their social and environmental impacts. CSR has been a frequent subject of research interest in large companies, but SMEs in this area was neglected. This paper investigates the degree of use (application) CSR among Czech SMEs. The random companies were chosen as the sample of CSR in SMEs. The aim of this study is to progress understanding of the opportunities or limitations for CSR in SMEs and evaluate the current status. Key areas of investigation were motivating factors, benefits and barriers in the commitment to CSR, identification of key stakeholders, the essence of CSR activities in the areas of primary and possible future challenges. This paper is based on processing of primary quantitative data from own research. The study approach used a structured questionnaire to obtain data for subsequent analysis using statistical software to test hypotheses. The results of this study demonstrate Czech SMEs approach to CSR and clearly defines the problem areas and identifies the main barriers, benefits and limitations in the expansion of awareness of CSR. Finally, the study indicates a possible future of CSR strategies and involves a view of the impacts of CSR in the Czech context. SMEs prefer learning from companies that already use the concept and see the power in individuals and their high motivation and not just owners, but also all stakeholders. Study is a contribution to the debate on CSR and it should help to advance understanding and recognition of the particular role of SMEs in the development of the CSR.
