Description	National (macroeconomic) competitiveness is one of most used and vogue word by politicians, economists and many others in today's globalized world. Competitiveness is also very controversial issue. There are lots of concepts and approaches to country's overall competitiveness. Author applies comprehensive and established indicator used by The United Nations - The Human development index to measure competitiveness at national level. The main goal of this paper is to find out whether higher expenditure on education, research and development tend to higher competitiveness. The United States, Japan and European Union countries (27) - the Triad countries were included to evaluate this relationship. According to panel data analysis used to investigate the association, expenditure on education and R & D positively causes national competitiveness.
