  • Current research is focused on modifying commercial ultrafiltration membranes with different types of polymeric nanofibres to gain additional functionality in water treatment applications. Biocide properties of membrane surface are achieved by adding electrospun nanofibre structures containing various forms of silver to lower the tendency to biofouling. Two types of polymeric nanofibre layers were used for experiments namely Polyurethane (PU) nanofibres based on 30% standard solution (Laritan) in Dimethylformamide (DMF). Second tested Polyethersulfone (PES) nanofibres were prepared from BASF E 6020P polymer. Nanofibres were prepared using the method called electrospinning, when fibres are formed by the effect of electrostatic field from a thin layer of a polymer solution. The capability of a polymer to form fibres is affected by a number of process and system parameters such as the intensity of electric field, surface tension, viscosity, molar mass, etc.
