Description
  • The purpose of the research described in this work is to answer how to measure the reologic (viscoelastic) properties tendo – deformational characteristics of soft tissue. The method would also resemble muscle palpation examination as it is known in clinical practice. For this purpose, an instrument with the working name “myotonometer” has been used. A total of 23 patients suffering from hypertonus – spasticity, were examined. At present, only the Ashworth scale is used in clinical studies to assess the amount of brain damage that causes spastic syndrome. This scale is, however, totally subjective, being dependent on the examiner (Young, R.R., Delwaide, P.J. 1985, Thilman, A.F., Burke, D.J., Rymer, W.Z. 1993). The amount of drug dose is evaluated according to the results of the Ashworth scale or experience of the examining neurologist. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new, objective method independent of the examiner using an instrument capable of estimating the amount of spasticity.
