  • The aim of this paper is to propose a methodology for determining the weights of the criteria and the subsequent construction of a composite indicator for the assessment of socio-economic status of municipalities. To determine the weights of sub-indicators entering the composite indicator the results of factor analysis were used. Weights of the indicators were set based on the proportion of variance expla-nation of a given indicator. Composite indicator was then created using the additive method of Weighted Sum Average. Sub-indicators include 27 variables whose crite-rion values were transformed to a scale from 0 to 1 according to the type of the variable, and then for each municipality value of the composite indicator was deter-mined. Composite indicator serves as a comprehensive assessment of the state of the economic pillar of municipalities in processing spatial analytical data. The proposed methodology was then tested on a set of 6,249 municipalities in the Czech Republic. According to the values of the composite indicator, municipalities were divided into five groups, including mild to severe evaluation of the economic pillar. Due to the concentration of values of the composite indicator to a small interval, an irregular scale with uniform distribution segment of large frequency was applied
