Description	The border not only separate but also constitutes bridges between the two states, people, picture of otherness and self-definition. This study refers to the research into mutual perception of inhabitants of border regions of Bavaria and western Bohemia. The research confirmed that after the end of West-East confrontation (Cold War) the neighbor on the other side of the border became one of the important elements while constituting regional self-definition. (en) Auf Grundlage von schriftlichen Quellen und qualitativen Interviews analysiert ist die regionale Identitätsarbeit in den Grenzregionen, die identitäre Einbettung des Anderen jenseits der Grenze sowie ihre Folgen fuer die deutsch-tschechischen Beziehungen. Dass Spuren der Geschichte viel subtiler auf regionale Identitäten wie grenzueber schreitende Dialoge einwirken als vielfach angenommen, ist dabei eines der zentralen Ergebnisse der Studie.
