Description
  • Dendrimers are symmetrically hyperbranched nano-sized polymers presenting vast potential in drug delivery applications. Drugs conjugated with dendrimers are slowly released, accumulate in tumors and have lower toxicity. Despite many advantages dendrimers which possess cationic groups on the surface are very cytotoxic and hemolytic. Because of that the modifications of surface groups are done but they influence on the carriers efficiency. In this work poly (propylene imine) (PPI) dendrimers of generation 5 (G5) with primary amino surface groups were partially (open shell glycodendrimers - OS) or completely (dense shell glycodendrimers - DS) modified with maltose residues. As a model membranes two kinds of 100 nm diameter liposomes were used to research differences in interactions between neutral (DMPC) and negatively charged (DMPC/DMPG) bilayers. Interactions were studied by fluorescence spectroscopy method. In conclusion, both OS and DS PPI G5 dendrimers show interactions with liposomes. The bilayer structure seems more rigid in the case of pure DMPC in comparison of DMPC/DMPG so the interactions with DMPC/DMPG were stronger. For all kinds of experiments presence of NaCl decrease the strength of interactions between dendrimers and liposomes. Resultswerepresented on international konference NANOCON 2013 in Brno (CZ) at 16.-18.10.2013.
