| Description
| - Foreign direct investment have had significantly influenced economic, social and environmental conditions in the Czech Republic since 1989. Regional authorities have focused on attracting new investors in order to increase competitiveness and resilience of their regions. However, construction of new production plants was not trouble free and had serious impact on individuals and cohesion of communities in case, when regional authorities failed to protect basic rights of their citizens. Research of indirect negative impacts of foreign direct investment of such kind on communities and alternatives which would prevent them from such interventions have been neglected by Czech scholars until now. Using the resilience concept, author aspires to fill this gap by demonstrating it on the example of the production plant of the Hyundai Motor Company in Nošovice (Czech Republic). For the purposes of the article, the concept of community must be considered in order to acknowledge the importance of external actors for shaping development of a community. As a result it is demonstrated that the community resilience is determined both by the level of cooperation between local and regional authorities and the ability of a community to anticipate and prevent conflicts between community members. At the end the author suggests some recommendations how to prevent communities from negative impacts of decisions taken on higher-scale geographical levels.
