Description
  • The present work deals with grain refinement of medium carbon steel having different initial structure modified either by thermal and/or thermomechanical process prior severe plastic deformation. The further grain refinement of steel samples having different initial structure was accomplished during ECAP at temperature of 400°C. The deformed microstructure was analysed after εef = 4. Employment of this processing route resulted in extensive deformation of ferrite grain and in partial destroying of lamellae structure of cementite. As straining increases the dynamic polygonization and recrystallization processes contributed to structure refinement. The tensile behaviour was characterized by strength increase for both steel with different initial structure, however the plasticity was reduced strongly.
