Description
| - The evaluation of crops and plant genetic resources involves data concerning their phenology, morphology and agronomic traits, stress resistance, and quality of products. Studies on the similarity of their origin performed in collections of genetic resources and in gene banks are important above all from the viewpoint of the elimination of duplicate genetic resources stored in gene banks. According to Dotlačil (2005), collections of important crops are often very extensive and for that reason they may involve duplicities, closely related genotypes etc. This is the reason why the users and plant breeders might have troubles and orientate themselves in these collections only with difficulties. As usual, for the evaluation of genetic diversity different statistical methods are used. They involve not only relatively simple but also complex, multidimensional analyses. These multidimensional statistical methods enable either to differentiate individual crops or to cluster them on the base of similar properties and appreciable traits (Užík & Žofajová 1997). Drobná & Žáková (2001) evaluated a collection of 36 varieties of white clover (T. repens) originating from 12 countries; the evaluation was performed using 15 morphological and agronomic traits. Benková & Žáková (2001) used this method when evaluating origins of 20 genotypes of the genus Lupinus. A detailed description of “core collections“ of forage legumes was published by Pelikán et al. (2009).
