  • Aluminum thin sheets are used in heat exchangers as fins of complex configuration (finstocks) and are formed by deep drawing and ironing. Therefore, high formability in balance with good strength is required. AA 8006 sheets exhibiting high formability are usually produced by ingot casting and hot rolling. However, a substantial reduction of material and energy costs is achieved using the twin-roll casting and cold rolling technology. Optimization of the thermo-mechanical treatment of strip-cast alloy is necessary to achieve good formability. The paper presents the results of an investigation aimed at studying the effect of several treatment parameters on the microstructure of strip-cast AA 8006 alloys. Quantitative microstructure evaluation of secondphase particles and grain structure was carried out. It was found that phase dispersion and grain structure are substantially affected by treatment parameters such as homogenization temperature and special intermediate annealing treatment.
