Description
  • Traditional way of interconnection of industrial fieldbuses is used for data acquisition for operator control of plants and processes. This way is not suitable for real-time control as it usually uses MS Windows based software gateways that are not capable of real-time processing of information. For assuring of real-time data transfer it is necessary to use different principle of interconnection. This new approach is based on hardware gateways for interconnection of fieldbuses on process level. Hardware based gateways can be designed to transfer data in predictable time. Hardware gateways are able to translate protocols while software gateways are usually designed to transfer process data only. At present time hardware gateways are already used to interconnect fieldbuses of different level, like Profibus and AS-Interface.
