Description
  • Dynamic secondary cooling models developed at ArcelorMittal Global R&D use online calculated surface temperatures at various slab positions to adjust secondary cooling water based on aim surface temperatures. The latest development for this model is full implementation of experimentally measured heat transfer coefficients determined as a function of spray water volume, position under the spray nozzle and slab surface temperature. Water inlet temperature can have a significant influence on the heat transfer coefficient and hence cooling efficiency of the sprays. The Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Laboratory of Brno Technical University (Brno) conducted experiments to determine the effect of the incoming spray water temperature on the HTC. They tested two different nozzles, one hydraulic and the other air mist. The incoming spray temperatures were 10, 20, 30, 50, and 70 degree Celsius.
