Description
  • Traditionally, welded joints of structures were assessed using the concept of nominal stresses and the detail categories. The disadvantage of this concept is that it does not allow for structural details and, what is more, the welded structure is often extremely indented, which makes establishing particular nominal stresses very difficult or even impossible. In such cases, it is necessary to use finite element method to assess stress state of welded joints. This article attempts to summarize the concepts being used today.
