Description
  • The purpose of the contribution is twofold: i) A full field analysis by FE of a three-point bending test of a sandwich beam made of alumina layers (A) and zirconia layers (Z) is attempted for numerical modelling of R-curve behaviour and compared with the approximate weight function method originally developed for homogeneous specimens; ii) Considering the presence of thermal residual stresses and the case of weak singularity due to the discontinuity in the elastic properties, a novel approach is suggested how to link together results concerning the penetrating microcrack with those pertaining to the situation when the primary crack tip is very close to the interface.
