  • Prediction of wall heat fluxes in combustion chambers attracts attention of design engineers in process industry due to its implications for the construction of combustors, boilers and similar devices. Furthermore, reliable experimental evaluation of the heat loads in large-scale experiment is rare. This work deals with stability issues observed in simulation of swirling diffusion gas flames and compares them to the real-world experiment and its instability. Steady and unsteady simulations using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are discussed. The experimental facility has a sectional water cooled combustion chamber equipped with a staged-gas 745 kW low-NOx type burner with axial-type swirl generator.
