Description
  • This paper deals with a numerical study of the fracture propagation in atypical test specimens made from quasi-brittle material (concrete). The main aim is to select suitable test geometries and specimen shapes/sizes for the future studies and real tests in novel and advantageous test configuration. The tests are simulated in ATENA 2D software (using the cohesive crack propagation modelling). The test specimens should represent a wide range of different shapes which considerably differ in constraint conditions. The same type of loading is used for the whole specimen/geometry set - a wedge mechanism causing splitting in the central part of the test specimen. The configurations selected for the real testing will be further numerically analyzed in detail in order to investigate the stress and displacement fields in the cracked bodies. (en)
