Description
  • The so-called over-deterministic method for determination of the stress intensity factor as well as the higher-order terms coefficients in the Williams expansion in cracked specimens is tested on two basic configurations: three-point bending and wedge splitting test. The main advantage of this method is that conventional finite elements can be used. Results calculated are compared to data found in literature obtained by means of hybrid crack elements (HCE) or boundary collocation method (BCM) and a good agreement can be observed. In contrast to studies already published, more than five terms of the Williams expansions are investigated in this contribution.
