  • Electrodialysis with heterogeneous bipolar membrane is an advanced method for recovery of acids and bases from corresponding organic and inorganic salts. In this work the effect of stack configuration on achievable concentration and purity of produced sodium hydroxide from sodium sulfate was studied experimentally in laboratory scale. Maximum achievable concentration of sodium hydroxide was affected by selectivity of monopolar, dominantly anion exchange membrane. The product purity was determined mostly by the permselectivity of bipolar membrane. Change of membrane configuration in the stack did not affect the purity of produced sodium hydroxide.
