Description
  • Two polymeric matrices which are silicone matrix and polyisobutylene plasticized by dioctyl-sebacate and oily material (named C4) were prepared and used for production of different plastic explosives. A series of high energy materials, namely BCHMX, epsilon-HNIW, RDX and HMX, were used each as explosive filler mixed with each polymeric matrix. The effect of the polymeric matrices on the thermal behavior of the explosives was studied using Differential thermal analysis technique. High performance liquid chromatography was used to detect the presence of BCHMX soluble in dioctyl-sebacate. Heat of combustion of the prepared plastic explosives and the pure explosives was measured using calorimetric bomb. From the obtained results, it was concluded that the polar plasticizer acts as a solvent for the energetic materials and decrease their thermal stability.
