  • In this contribution, new measurements are presented of the terminal velocities of the spherical particles falling in two-component shear thinning viscoelastic polymer solutions. The experimental data obtained are compared with the theoretical ones calculated for the fall in purely viscous fluids with viscosity functions following the four parameter Carreau flow model. An evident enhancement of the drag coefficient, which is undoubtedly caused by normal stress effects, has been observed for the polymer solutions tested.

  • V práci jsou prezentovány nová měření mezní rychlosti kulových částic v dvoukomponetních roztocích polymerů s pseudolastickými a současně viskoelastickými vlastnostmi. Experimentální výsledky jsou porovnány s teoretickými výpočty pro pád v čistě viskózních tekutinách za použití viskozitní funkce ve tvaru Carreauova čtyř parametrového modelu. Výrazné zvýšení odporového koeficientu bylo pozorováno v testovaných roztocích a je nepochybně způsobeno účinkem normálového napětí. (cs)
