Description	The period of the pontificate of Urban VIII. (1623-1644) represents a ground-breaking turning point in the history of papal minting, mainly due to the introduction of machine-made coins at the newly established Papal Mint in Rome in 1634. Then, the regular manufacture commenced, primarily of the silver papal coin of a high mass called a silver scudo or piastre using a modern technology (rolling). This book offers a new unusual perspective of the technical context of this era in the history of Roman coinage and it is accompanied by a detailed catalogue of the silver piastres of Urban VIII. from the years 1634-1643. The internal structure of the book also corresponds with this, whereby the first part includes an analytical study dealing with the wider circumstances of the manufacture of papal coins in Rome during the pontificate of Urban VIII., while the second part comprises a specialised catalogue of the coin material described. (en) Il periodo del pontificato di Urbano VIII (1623-1644) rappresenta un decisivo momento di passaggio nella storia monetazione pontificia, soprattutto grazie all'introduzione della battitura meccanica nella nuova zecca papale di Roma a partire dal 1634. In quel periodo con l'ausilio della tecnologia moderna (produzione delle monete con cilindri rotanti) venne avviata una regolare coniazione di monete pontificie d'argento di grande modulo, chiamate scudo d'argento o piastra. Questo libro riporta un nuovo e originale punto di vista sulle implicazioni tecniche di questo segmento di storia della monetazione romana ed e completato da un dettagliato catalogo delle piastre d'argento di Urbano VIII tra gli anni 1634-1644).
