| - Since the air quality has a direct impact on the human health, air pollution monitoring is very important. The complex mixtures of organic pollutants on urban airborne particles interact with organisms, and they may induce processes like mutagenesis, carcinogenesis and chromosomal aberrations. The aim of this study was to demonstrate genotoxic properties of the air samples collected in 20 urban sites in Brno (Czech Republic), and to show the high relevancy of the passive sampling employment in similar studies. PUF based passive samplers were used. Low sensitivity of PAS to accidental short time changes in concentration of pollutants is advantage allowing obtaining information about long-term air contamination. The samplers were situated at 20 selected sites in Brno in two campaigns (summer and autumn), 28 days each. Low volume active air samplers were used at three reference sites for 28 days to determine the exact level of contamination during the sampling period.
