Description
| - My paper is operating in a partly abstract, partly theoretical space. As the title gives away, it concentrates on liminal moments – moments of transition from one mode or world into another – focusing on structural patterns in predominantly early modern plays and stories. From another perspective, this paper is a series of observations on the theatre as a transition between the everyday and the fictional worlds – a transition which is institutionalised and thus permanently present – one which Victor Turner would call institutionalised liminoid experience. As opposed to cultural anthropologists and, to some extent, even to theatre phenomenologists, I am concerned with the metaphysical turn – from understanding ritual as a symbolic action in the material world to understanding it as %22estranged%22 state of mind.
