Description
| - Procainamide (PA) is an effective antiarrhythmic drug used in the treatment of a variety of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. The monitoring of serum concentrations of PA and its active metabolite, N-acetylprocainamide (NAPA), is ordered by the wide intersubject variability in genetically determined N-acetyltransferase activity. A simple and precise high performance liquid chromatography method for the determination of PA and NAPA in serum, urine and perfused fluid is presented. N-Propionylprocainamide was used as an internal standard. This assay is suitable for both therapeutic monitoring purposes and assessment of procainamide pharmacokinetics following a single oral dose of the drug.
