Description
  • The aim of chapter is the analysis and synthesis of the current status of physical and sports education at school and its comparison with the vision of its status in the future. In current well - being of Czech youngsters the sedentary activities: computers, video games/ mobile phone; watching TV / videos prevail. The participation of Czech youth in sports and physical activities over the last 15 years has not much changed, but cannot compensate the increasing influence of these sedentary ones. The prevalence of overweight and obesity is not favorable. In 11-year-old boys it is 21%, in girls 16 % and among 13-year-old youngsters it is 16% in boys and 12% in girls. The physical performances of Czech children and youth, especially their aerobic capacity, decrease. In current practice (since 2007, in primary schools and 2009 in secondary schools) the PE subject formed part of the educational umbrella %22Man and Health%22. The results, the knowledge and skills are described in the expected competences. The schools have to transfer the Framework education programs into their own School education programs instead the traditional compulsory curricula. Examples of the unique curricula: Versatility of Olympic Winners Badge; Olympic Days for Children and Youth; and INDARES projects are implemented in current practice at primary and secondary schools and there are described in this paper as well. The future vision of physical and sports education should be focused on the developments and innovations of four main elements of the PE system: students' learning activities, teachers' educational activities, curricula, conditions under which the PE lessons are carried out.
